Creating a DVD with Menu and Subtitles is a Multistep process.

Step 1: Create MPEG2 compliant video
DivX and XviD video is converted to MPEG2 video with transcoding software. There are a variety of programs that accomplish this step. I recommend TMPGEnc for both it's high quality output and ease of use. Other programs include: Cinema Craft Encoder, Mainconcept MPEG Encoder, Canopus ProCoder, NeroVision Express, etc.

Step 2: Creating DVD Menu
There are many approaches to creating a DVD Menu. One common method utilizes Ph*tosh*p to create graphics and buttons which are placed on separate "layers" and then imported into the DVD authoring software. Some simple DVD authoring software also allows basic menu templates that are functional but usually not the most beautiful. An alternative to Ph*tosh*p is DVD Menu Studio.

Step 3: Preparing Subtitles
This step is usually either very simple or very complicated. The difference between simple and complicated depends on the type of subtitle file, whether framerate conversions were required with the video, whether the subtitle is split into more then one file, etc...Most of the time, no subtitle preparation is required as the subtitle file is simply imported into the DVD authoring software. For those hairy situations, software like Subtitle Workshop and others come in handy.

Step 4: DVD Authoring
This is step that brings together the various DVD components (Menu, Video, Audio, Subtitles). An excellent program for this step is DVD Lab Pro.

I'm with stupid :)
