To begin with, aspartame is not non-caloric, it has the same 4-calories-per-gram burden as table sugar, although, it takes a lot fewer grams to sweeten something.
And, even though it is stable in liquids, it isn't heat stable.. we willingly accepted these drawbacks for something that tasted cleanly sweet but didn't raise insulin levels measurably.
Serious challenges to aspartame's safety began to surface.
First calims that because the body breaks down the dipeptide molecule into methanol, a known toxin that can cause blindness, and formaldehyde, a known cancer-causing agent, the product posed significant safety risks to the public.
The FDA concuded that the levels did not reach toxic levels, and in fact, fruits , vegetables, and fruit juices exposed people to HIGHER levels of methanol THAN ASPARTAME did.
And the furor died down somewhat.
Subsequent to the publication of Protein Power scientific papers came to our attention, followed by a book by Russell L Blaylock: Excitotoxins: the taste that kills (toe maar, wat een titel) that caused us to review and ultimately reverse our stance on this sweetener.
We now feel that aspartame may pose significant hazards to the brain and nervous ystem and we NO LONGER RECOMMEND ITS' USE...
Aspartame differs from other types of artificial sweeteners in that it is a dipeptide. In other words, it's a tiny protein fragment
It can enter into the bloodstream intact and find its way through the circulation to a vulnerable area of the brain called the bare area, where it can gain entry to the brain.
Why is that a problem... the brain is picky. ..
met andere woorden, aspartaam kan de hersenen in..passeert de blood-brain barrier..
Once inside the brain it may stimularte the brain abnormally, an effect called excitotoxicity.
Such is the case for aspartame; this sweetener like MSG (monosodium glutamate of vetsin) behaves as a brain excitotoxin
It's chemical structure allows it to fit into a receptor within the brain called the NMDA recemptor , triggering such overstimulation in the nerve cell that it dies..
In other words, the brain cell literally becomes excited to death.
Interesting the toxic effects are made worse by low levels of magnesium.. a condition that afflicts the vast majority of people with insulin-related diseases such as diabetes, obesity and hypertension.
"Does anyone know anything about tagatose? Pepsico reports that they are planning to start using it in Europe."
Here is a quote from the release:
Tagatose is Spherix's revolutionary low-calorie, full-bulk sweetener that the Firm contends tastes virtually like table sugar, being far superior to other low-calorie sweeteners. In addition, because it does not cause a rise in blood sugar, tagatose is safe for use by people with diabetes, fulfilling a long-felt need for this rapidly increasing group of the world's population. Unlike table sugar, tagatose does not promote tooth decay, which enhances its potential for foods and sodas. It has pre-biotic properties that promote healthy digestion, making it useful in functional food applications, such as health bars and other medicinal foods and drinks.
Ergo, als je ergens het woord tagatose tegenkomt, weet je van wie je het hebt..
