Het Tsjechoslowaakse Legioen in de Russische Burgeroorlog waren volgens mij ook beenharde gasten. Beetje heen en weer rijden op de Trans Siberische spoorlijn.

According to historian Robert GL Waite, the retreat from the Baltic caused discipline in the Freikorps to break down, and many fighters "ran wild through the country side marauding in complete disorder" [6] In the fiction of Ernst von Salomon, who was in a Freikorps, they drove the Latvians 'like rabbits across the fields'. They burned houses, destroyed bridges and telephone poles. They threw bodies into wells, followed by hand grenades:

We saw red, we had nothing in the heart of human emotions... what were earlier houses, were rubble, ash and smoldering beams, like festering sores in the bare field.... We had lit a bonfire, there was burning more than dead material, there also was burning our hopes, our desires,... the laws and values of the civilized world.... In a review, the historian Max Hastings wrote:

A German Freikorps soldier, Erich Balla, described almost gleefully in his memoirs how his Freikorps comrades roamed the streets of Riga killing teenage girls, "mostly beautiful things", whom the murderers claimed "spent their nights in sexual orgies and their days in orgies of violence… They did not see their youth or their charm. They saw only the face of the devil as they were beating, shooting, stabbing them to death"

Dat vind ik zo ironisch aan de, in mijn ogen naïeve, studies (en/of discussies) over het gedrag van veel Duitsers tijdens WWII. Het is allemaal zo normaal als je het binnen de context van oorlog, of menselijk gedrag in het algemeen, bekijkt.

Sommige mensen worden knettergek wanneer je alle restricties opheft.

Ze hebben nooit echt gekke dingen gedaan met hoog gerankte nazi's. (voor zover ik weet) Als we hun ondervraag methodes en occasionele publiekelijke executies even buiten beschouwing laten.

Alleen zijn er niet zoveel in handen van de Sovjets gevallen.
