Suppose that you want to make a folder in D:\ unreadable, let's say this folder is named games. This is what you do:
1. Create a new text file, copy the following text into the new text file without quotations:
"ren games games.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}"
Save this text file as "loc.bat" (no quotes) in the same directory as the folder you want to lock (Not in the folder you want to lock!). In this example we would save loc.bat to D:\.
2. Create another new text file, and copy the following text into it without quotations:
"ren games.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} games"
Save this file as "key.bat" (no quotes) in the same place as you saved the previous file.
- If you were having trouble saving as .bat files, go to Windows Explorer (any folder window will do), Then go Tools > Folder Options > View > Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".
3. Now, if you want to make the folder unreadable, double click loc.bat, and Windows will be tricked into thinking the folder is the Control Panel. - Don't worry, your files aren't lost. Double click key.bat and the folder will be back to normal.
- NB: In the text you copied, wherever you see the word "games" replace this with the name of your folder. If the folder name has more than one word (ie has a space in it) you will need to use quotes for the folder name.
- Eg: You want to use this on a folder named School Work, then you would replace games with "School Work".
- If it doesn't seem to work at first try going up a directory, then back to the folder you were in. It should be refreshed.
