If there were ever an anabolic hormone you could bring up in order to demonstrate that “not all anabolic steroids are created equal”, it would certainly be stanozolol. Stanozolol possesses a number of unique qualities that in combination put it into a league of its own. In this article we shall examine these special characteristics as well as discuss the real-world implications for bodybuilders.
To begin with, stanozolol is most commonly used as an injection, better known to the world as Winstrol Depot. This is where it’s first unusual property is most obvious. An ampoule of Winstrol Depot (sold in Thailand under the Stanol brand) will strike you as quite different from any other steroid you can buy because the liquid inside the ampoule is milky white, rather than transparent. The distinctive white color of stanozolol suspension is formed by the microcrystals of stanozolol suspended in water. You see, its mode of distribution is different from almost any other anabolic steroid used by bodybuilders today, as stanozolol is sold in an aqueous suspension, rather than in oil. Such difference is due to the fact that stanozolol is not esterified. Unlike other injectable steroids that are dissolved in oil through the use of ethyl alcohol, stanozolol, while mixed in water, is not water-soluble at all.
Because of this unique characteristic, another significant difference lies in the fact that injectable stanozolol does not have a classical half-life that we are used to with other injectables, where the level of a certain drug drops by half after a set period of time. On the contrary, the tiny crystals of stanozolol slowly dissolve and once they have, the level of the drug falls very rapidly. This makes stanozolol uniquely useful both for the longer more traditional 6-12 week cycles, as well as the “new school” 2-week long cycles that have become so popular in the last 5 years.
Another interesting and – you guessed it – unique property of stanozolol is that it is the only anabolic steroid that was demonstrated to be able to bind to the androgen receptors in microsomes and carry out a posttranscriptional effect. This effect is possible thanks to the presence of androgen receptors in the sub-cellular fractions. What does that translate to in terms of use for bodybuilders? Well, suffice it to say, the androgen receptors are also present in the microsomes of adipose tissue. This exceptional ability of stanozolol to bind to the androgen receptor in adipose tissue results in its ability to encourage fat loss, as demonstrated in a number of studies.
You often hear bodybuilders refer to Winstrol as a weak drug. Such judgement, however, is more often based on warped perception of reality than anything else. The typical oral stanozolol most commonly found on the market is a tablet that contains 2 mg of the active hormone. That means that you need a staggering 25 tablets if you want to take 50 mg of the steroid, which is a good amount sufficient for any appreciable gains. Compare that with one 50 mg tablet of oxymetholone and it becomes clear why bodybuilders call stanozolol a weak drug. Just because taking 25 tablets is often impractical does not mean, however, that it is ineffective. Milligram for milligram, stanozolol can hold its own against most drugs. The same unfortunate comparison is true when bodybuilders refer to injectable stanozolol. They often compare the results they get from 2 ampoules of, let’s say, testosterone enanthate and the effect of 2 ampoules of Winstrol Depot. In this comparison, stanozolol is a clear loser, but is it fair to compare 500 mg of one steroid with 200 mg of another? Of course not! I can assure you that 500 mg of stanozolol a week can produce substantial gains.
Many steroid experts maintain that stanozolol exhibits a synergistic effect. This synergy is what makes stanozolol truly special. It was theorized and in fact, demonstrated in the real world that when stanozolol is involved, the sum of 2 parts becomes greater than the whole. What does that mean exactly? For instance, the combination of 25 mg of methandrostenolone and 25 mg of stanozolol will yield better gains than 50 mg of either one of these two compounds alone. The same also holds true if you replace a part of your other injectable steroids with Winstrol Depot.
Because it is 17-alkylated, it shares most of the traits associated with other 17-alkylated oral steroids. However, Winstrol Depot does differ from other injectable steroids in one important aspect: since it is an unesterified suspension, the Winstrol Depot injection is still 17-alkylated and therefore can also be ingested orally, although its bioavailability is reduced to a significant degree when it passes through the liver.
The aforementioned characteristics make stanozolol the ultimate stacking hormone. Whether you’re on an all-out mass gaining cycle, a strength-building cycle or a cutting cycle aimed at accelerated fat loss, stanozolol can and should be a part of it. By itself, stanozolol will result only in moderate gains, but it becomes indispensable as part of virtually any steroid cycle. This is not to say that a cycle without stanozolol will be ineffective, but the inclusion of stanozolol will, typically, give you greater results for any given cycle, milligram for milligram. Winstrol [as well as testosterone] should never be ignored as a “background” drug, because when used correctly and in adequate amounts, it offers a much improved foundation to your drug regimen.
