Carles Aleña is the next big thing out of La Masia. An attacking midfielder excellent at penetrating between the lines with the ball. Given his talent and skill he could easily be the heir to Andrés Iniesta, and that’s why he’s a winner here.

At 19 years-old, Aleña is the future. He’s ready to be eased into the first-team, and needs to be guided as that happens. Andrés Iniesta is the perfect choice to be that guide.

Had he left the Blaugrana this summer then Aleña would have entered a Barça midfield with no true-born Barcelona central midfielder to act as a guide.

Iniesta’s renewal will allow him to be that guide, and who knows, the timing could work out for Carles Aleña to truly become Andrés Iniesta’s heir.
