Ik ben aan een artikel bezig waar ik probeer alles zo goed mogenlijk samen te vatten.
In this thread i would like to connect information on how to improve cognition, decission making and other cognitive ability's wich would give an understanding under the dynamics behind, them, what compounds can act synergetically and what would be individual for each own case.
It appears that mind and muscle didnt install the vbulletin modification that paste's choline after the word piracetam, preventing confusion and actually able to know what really goes well with certain compounds and under what conditions.
The firstclass of nootropics i will talk about are substances wich raise acetylcholine, this acts on the nicotinic and muscarinic receptors wich in their turn can recruit dopamine and glutamate.
Increasing acetylcholine can be done by several means, most users start with a choline source, this is the precursor for acetylcholine wich raises its levels and in turn cause the beneficial effects. Its also possible to inhibit the breakdown of acetylcholine wich also raises its levels.
To get an idea on what can be achieved with increasing acetylcholine a study on huperzine a and one on donepezil provide some answers.
Acetylcholine enhancement improves performance, in complex taskts, enhances learning performance and improves memory, they probably work in other area's too i still have to look into that but dislike making conclusions out of rats getting smarter.
Increasing acetylcholine does have the potential to lower mood or cause depresion making individuals think increasing cognition is a trade off for a good mood however there's a pharmacological reason behind it, muscarinic receptors when activated are pro depressive, however study's on lemon balm have showed us that mood can even be improved when improving cognition trough the cholinergic system. Also nicotine improves mood but it is selective for the nicotinic receptors wich arent pro depressive.
Another cholinergic worth mentioning is ALCAR, i cant say it better then chrono from imminst so i will post the link to he's blog here:
Hmm it appears the link to he's blog doesnt work, however heres the thread about it.
Cholinergic Mechanisms of ALCAR - LONGECITY
Ill go further later on, next up is the glutamate system en then dopamine with as last the racetams wich are cholinergic and glutaminergic modulators.
