But first, I need to acknowledge a very common misconception that's out there. 90% of the time when you ask on a forum about what causes butt-wink you will get some combination of "you just need to improve the mobility/flexibility of your hamstrings/hips/glutes/(fill-in-the-blank)." (Examples: here, here, here, and here) As the theory goes, your inflexibility is preventing you from keeping your hips back, thus by becoming more flexible you will magically start hitting the right bottom position every time.
This is entirely the wrong way to think about it. Look again at the video posted above of the guy demonstrating butt-wink. Does he look particularly inflexible to you? The correct answer is "no", you will always be able to squat deeper with buttwink than without it, no matter how flexible you are, and you won't necessarily be able to control it better by becoming more flexible either.
